Literature Text

Emily Kingery was pacing back and forth in front of the School; she had been doing some extra work for the music teacher, and was now waiting to be picked up.
Strangely though no one had come yet, and it was getting darker by the minute. "This isn't good...mom should have been here bynow." She pulled out her phone, flipped it open, and tried the number again. Just  like before, there was no answer, so she placed the phone back in her bag, sighing.

"I hope nothing's wrong...maybe she was held up at work.." She felt a little crazy talking to herself. but it always helped her think more clearly. As darkness finally crept in, she tried one last time to call, then after no answer, she placed the phone back and began to walk home. The teacher had left an hour before, asking Emily if she would be alright waiting by herself. Emily assured her she would be, but now she was not so sure.

As she walked down the road, she kept getting an eerie feeling. It was pitch black, the only light coming from the pale moon. While it was beautiful, it also seemed to be smiling at her. Not really a pleasant smile either, more sinister...more evil. Emily smacked herself in the head slightly.

Stop it. She thought to herself. Your only scaring yourself, just relax. It's only the moon, and the dark isn't that bad really. Looking up at the moon and around, she began to hum a small tune to try and calm herself as she walked.

She began thinking about how long of a way it would be, and how she wished her mother would come get her. Stopping, she tried her mom's number again, then the work number. A man answered and when she asked for her mom, she was told she had left over an hour ago. "Odd..." Emily muttered after thanking the man and hanging up.

"She would be home if she had already left...why isn't she answering?" Getting more worried, Emily began walking again, picking up the pace. She was only half paying attention to where she was going, becoming overwhelmed with worry. As she came out of her thoughts a bit more, she noticed that she was back in front of the School. Looking around, she saw she had walked in a huge circle.

She cursed silently, mentally yelling at herself to pay more attention. As she started to walk, she noticed two ar lights from far away, only they were getting closer by the second. Emily peered closely, trying to see if it was her mom or not. As the car came closer, she saw it was not slowing down. Jumping out of the way, she hit the gate in front of the School hard, stunning herself and falling to the side.

As she faded in and out, she heard the car screech to a halt, then footsteps rushing over. Then she felt herself being lifted up off the ground. She tried to speak, tried to protest, but her head was throbbing too much for her to say anything. Feeling herself thrown into the car, the darkness of night clouding around, her eyes closed slowly. The last thing she heard before falling unconscious sounded like her mother from far away, screaming her name.
